Kelud, but make it cloud. A small cloud named after one of Java's most restless volcanoes. Quiet for now. Something is rumbling.

01 · The pun

Say it fast and Kelud becomes cloud.

Gunung Kelud is a stratovolcano on the border of Kediri and Blitar, East Java. It has a habit of going quiet for years and then making the whole island pay attention. Seemed like a good name for a cloud: calm on the surface, a lot going on underneath.

02 · Status page, volcano edition

Indonesia already has the best incident levels.

PVMBG rates every volcano on four alert levels. They work just as well for servers.

Level I

Normal

all systems calm

Fumaroles only. Graphs are flat, coffee is warm, nobody is on call in spirit.

Level II

Waspada

watch the graphs

Latency tremors. Someone opens the dashboard “just to check”.

Level III

Siaga

pager on

Deploys frozen. Rollback plan printed. The crater lake is starting to steam.

Level IV

Awas

evacuate the cluster

Ash on every dashboard. Fail over, warn everyone downwind, write the postmortem later.

03 · What lives here

Nothing yet. The mountain is still building pressure.

gunung.cloud is a home for things worth running in the cloud. The first eruption is on its way.
